President

As a young Afro-Latina, it was imperative for me to be persistent in all my facets of life. It brings me glorious joy to be the founder of Renters Equity Movement Association Inc. (R.E.M.A). As a 22-year-old hailing from the vibrant & bustling Bronx, I have embarked on a journey to fight for tenants' rights and equitable housing in our community here in Mount Rainer/Brentwood.

Having grown up amidst the struggles faced by renters in marginalized communities. It became abundantly clear to me that systemic issues were perpetuating an unjust housing system, leaving many of us feeling unheard and neglected.

Driven by an unwavering commitment to effect change amongst my neighbors, we decided to take matters into our own hands. R.E.M.A was born out of a collective desire to initiate change, challenge the status quo, and demand fair treatment for all renters in our community. We knew that our voices had been silenced for far too long, and it was time to rise up and be heard.

Our Mission

At R.E.M.A, we are committed to promoting renters' equity, addressing housing disparities, and advocating for reasonable and fair treatment for all tenants. Our primary goal is to create a community where the voices of renters are not only heard but also respected and acted upon promptly. We work tirelessly to bridge the communication gaps between residents and property managers, ensuring that concerns are acknowledged, addressed, and resolved in a timely manner.

Through collaborative efforts and strategic advocacy, R.E.M.A aims to empower renters to navigate challenges, exercise their rights effectively, and demand the quality of living they deserve. We understand firsthand the frustration and helplessness that comes from feeling unheard and disregarded, which is why we are dedicated to lifting the voices of the unheard and ensuring their concerns are taken seriously.

As an organization, we are committed to fostering a sense of community, inclusivity, and social justice. We actively challenge existing disparities and advocate for policies that promote equitable living conditions for all residents. We believe that by working together and amplifying our collective voice, we can create lasting change that benefits not only current renters but also future generations.
